Dr. Jim Hamilton, D.V.M.
Equine Health Consultant

Originally from Ohio, Jim was an equine enthusiast from a very young age and operated a boarding stable on the family farm. After earning his bachelor’s degree and doing post-graduate studies at Ohio State, he earned his doctorate from the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine (1986). He then joined a sports medicine practice at Belmont Park in New York working exclusively with thoroughbred racehorses, he remained there until 1992

Dr. Hamilton now resides and practices in the North Carolina Sandhills as a partner in Southern Pines Equine Associates with Dr. Tom Daniel. The practice provides complete medical and surgery services to the rapidly growing horse community in southern North Carolina. His interest is in equine sports medicine, especially respiratory, orthopedics and diagnostics. Dr. Hamilton is also the author of “Equine Emergencies on the Road” (published by Blue Green Publishing),a glove compartment manual on prevention and treatment of en-route illness and injury of horses.

Hamilton is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Academy of Veterinary Disaster Medicine, and a member of the United States Pony Club’s National Safety Committee. In 1998, work done to help the state veterinary association (NCVMA) organize a disaster plan earned Jim the “Veterinarian of the Year” award.
